Read-it-later for Claude and ChatGPT

Gather the best of what you read.

Ask in plain words to save a page, a passage, a YouTube moment or the answer you just got. Gleaner writes a short summary, tags it and files it by topic. Later, ask what you saved and it finds it.

In Claude Code

/plugin marketplace add shawn-sandy/gleaner
/plugin install gleaner@shawn-sandy

Saves to Google Drive, Notion, a Cowork project, your Claude Code project or a private claude.ai artifact.

Open source, MIT licensed. Needs a paid Claude plan or a ChatGPT workspace.

Example: three asks, one clip

  1. yougrab the part about animation lengths, for the motion post

Keep most UI transitions short: around 200 to 300 ms feels quick without feeling abrupt.

    gleanerAdded part 1: animation lengths.

  2. youand this table too

    Duration by element size
    Small: icons, toggles100–150 ms
    Medium: cards, menus200–300 ms
    Large: sheets, pages300–400 ms

    gleanerAdded part 2: this table.

    Motion timing guidelines

Two parts on picking durations by element size.

Ask in plain words. Find it again later.

Gleaner has four skills, and you never have to choose. Describe what you want, and Claude or ChatGPT picks the right one from your words and the page you're on.

In Claude Code, you can also run each one by its command.

  • glean

    /gleaner:glean

    Pages, parts and answers

Save a whole page, gather passages from several tabs into one clip, or keep the answer you got about a page, steps and code intact.

    • yousave this page
    • yougrab the part about easing
    • yousave that
  • youtube

    /gleaner:youtube

Videos and the moments in them

Save a whole video or just the moments that matter. Gleaner builds the summary from the transcript, with key moments that link to the exact second.

    • yousave this video
    • youkeep 3:10 to 5:40
    • yougrab the part about generics
  • preferences

    /gleaner:preferences

    Where clips go, set once

Choose where clips go and in what format on your first save. Pages and videos share these settings, which can sync through Google Drive if you want.

    • youalways save here
    • youuse markdown by default
    • youshow my preferences
  • follow-up

    /gleaner:follow-up

What to do next with a clip

Ask what to do next with a saved clip. Gleaner reads its note, summary and links, then suggests three follow-ups and saves them to the clip.

    • youwhat should I follow up on?
    • yousuggest follow-ups for that clip
    • yousuggest follow-ups for my view transitions clip

What's in every clip

One Markdown file of about 400 words at most. A title and details such as the source, date and tags come first, then a TL;DR, key points, notable details and takeaways.

TL;DR …Key points …Notable details …Takeaways …
  1. Search by asking

Ask "what did I save about Cowork?" to get a table of matching clips, newest first, each linked. Gleaner searches titles, tags, notes and summaries.

  2. One clip per page

Add more from a page you clipped this session, and it joins that clip. If the clip is from an earlier session, Gleaner saves an updated copy that links back. It never edits an old clip.

  3. Filed for you

Each clip gets a category, which doubles as its folder, plus a type and 3 to 6 specific tags. Gleaner reuses the tags you already have, spelled the same way.

  4. Your reasons, kept

Add a reason to any request, like "…for the motion post", and it's saved as the clip's note. Gleaner never writes one for you.

Saves where you already keep things

By default, clips go to Google Drive from the Chrome side panel and to your project folder in Claude Code. To save one somewhere else, name the place or add --to.

  • Google DriveBrowser Research/<category>/--to drive
  • NotionBrowser Research database--to notion
  • Cowork projectbrowser-research/<category>/--to cowork:"Name"
  • Claude Code projectbrowser-research/<category>/--to local
  • ArtifactA private page on claude.ai--to artifact

Works in the Chrome side panel, the Browser pane in Claude Code desktop, and ChatGPT's connected Chrome tabs and Work browser.
